LAKE HAVASU CITY / FT. MOHAVE – Two hospitals in Mohave County are joining with 45 sister facilities nationwide to support the LifePoint Hospitals Disaster Response Fund.  Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City and Valley View Medical Center in Ft. Mohave are encouraging employees and physicians to contribute to the fund, a major element of LifePoint’s Hope for Haiti initiative.  That effort was launched shortly after the recent devastating earthquake.

“Our employees and medical staff have always stepped up to the plate to help others in need, whether the campaign is close to home in the Tri-State area or of a larger scope such as Hurricane Katrina,” Havasu Regional CEO Sandra C. Podley and Valley View CEO Allen Peters said in a joint statement.  “LifePoint’s Hope for Haiti initiative focuses on the need for funding, supplies and volunteers following the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti.  This campaign will help us take our efforts to the next level.”

As part of the LifePoint Hospitals Disaster Response Fund, LifePoint has committed to match all donations made to the fund up to $250,000.  The fund is administered by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and will be distributed to targeted relief and recovery organizations, including Samaritan’s Purse and Heart to Heart International.

In addition to dollar-for-dollar matching, LifePoint has pledged to contribute $1.25 for every one dollar donated to the Disaster Response Fund before March 1.  Tax-deductible donations can be made online at www.cfmt.org/lifepointdisaster or by mailing a check to LifePoint Disaster Response Fund, P.O. Box 440225, Nashville, Tennessee 37244.

“The process of recovery and rebuilding in Haiti will not be easy, and it is important to our employees and affiliated physicians that we show our long-term commitment to the Haitian people who need our help,” said William F. Carpenter III, president and chief executive officer of LifePoint Hospitals. “Several LifePoint employees and affiliated physicians have already traveled to Haiti to offer their support and services. In addition, we have established a LifePoint Hope for Haiti Task Force, which will be exploring further ways we can assist those on the ground in Haiti in the weeks and months to come.”

“I observed the devastation left by the earthquake first hand during my recent trip to Haiti,” said Dr. Lanny Copeland, chief medical officer of LifePoint, who was in Haiti February 1-7.  “Even before the earthquake, the people of Haiti had little to be thankful for.  Now they are left with new challenges. There will be a dire need here for years to come and they need our help.”
